Happy Monday! This past year many of us have learned to create extraordinary moments out of ordinary days. For me, that means no longer saving extra special wines. It means uncorking them now and celebrating today. If you have been saving a wine, here is your excuse to open it: In 2000, Wall Street Journal wine writers Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher declared that the last Saturday in February to be “Open That Bottle Night.” So for this coming Saturday, choose your bottle, plan a special food pairing, and get ready to uncork and savor. A few tips: - If your bottle is 8+ years old, consider using an Ah-So cork puller as the cork may be fragile. You also may want to decant it to remove sediment.
- Consider having a back-up bottle on hand in case the bottle has aged a bit too long.
- Be sure to share why this bottle is so special to you as you sip.
