Our handpicked collection from the W&T Daniell archives
Reintroducing our handpicked collection of William & Thomas Daniell framed prints....
Thomas Daniell and his nephew William were among the first British artists to travel to India, where they arrived in 1786. They spent two years in Calcutta, where they published a series of aquatints, Views of Calcutta. Between 1788 and 1791 they travelled extensively throughout Northern India, drawing and recording any picturesque scene or interesting building that attracted them and producing vast numbers of drawings. From 1792 to 1793 they toured Southern India. On returning to England in 1794, the Daniells launched an ambitious publishing programme. The next thirteen years were spent making 144 aquatints of Oriental Scenery, which was published in six parts 1795-1808.
We have selected six images from the series of 'views in Hindoostan' which have been beautifully re printed and framed in England and available in two sizes.
Other prints in the Daniells's collection may be available by special order. Please enquire to [email protected]
