What is a nickel allergy?

A very common form of contact dermatitis – the same type of skin reaction that’s triggered by poison ivy or a bee sting.

What are the symptoms?

Tell-tale signs include: a rash or bumps on the skin; itching; redness; change in skin color; dryness; and even blisters and fluid discharge in the worst cases.

Is it common?

3-4% of the population is born with a nickel sensitivity; however, by the time adulthood is reached, more than 20% of the population has been sensitized and shows some degree of nickel allergy symptoms.

Does it ever go away?

Unfortunately, once a nickel sensitivity is acquired, you’re stuck with it. The only real solution is nickel avoidance.
