Stuart and his magnificent smile |
It is with heavy hearts that we reach out to share the passing of our dear Stuart. He will be remembered and always loved for the man, husband, father, friend, leader and mentor that he was. His passion and dedication has impacted so many lives worldwide.

Chris and Stuart in the early days at Cave Junction, Oregon |
Fire Mountain Gems and Beads started in 1973 with Stuart's love for cutting faceted stones. As an engineer, he enjoyed the angles, optics and gemology. After filling an entire garage with finished stones, it was finally time to sell them. Over the last 50 years, he and his wife Chris have turned a garage-based hobby into an international jewelry-making supply company. He traveled the world in search of jewelry-making supplies, making everlasting partnerships and friendships along the way. His life's work has brought together a community of designers, artists, suppliers and employees from across the world. Our motto of "Uniting the World One Bead at a Time" was truly lived by Stuart.

Those of us who had the pleasure of working with Stuart will always remember and cherish his big heart, humor, intelligence and generosity of time and knowledge. We will miss him walking through the building and always making time for a good story, a laugh or a piece of advice.

Chris and Stuart's early Rhodesian who put up with everything |
While dedicated to the company and its people, Stuart made sure to spend much of his time with his loving wife, family and friends. He found great joy in his love of animals among his horses and dogs—the Rhodesian ridgebacks were some of our favorite coworkers through the years. No one was more excited than Stuart to celebrate Fire Mountain Gems and Beads' 50-year anniversary this upcoming year. We hope that you will join us in celebrating in his honor. We all hope to carry on his legacy of spreading kindness and creativity wherever we go. Stuart's memory will continue to inspire our day-to-day business and friendly customer service and will always live on in the jewelry-making community. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Boys and Girls Club of the Rogue Valley or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. With love, Your Fire Mountain Gems and Beads Family
