| Set up a safe space. Be sure that your dog's safe place (kennel, crate, bedding area) is set up. This includes adding padding, comfort blankets, their favorite toys, and a small bowl of water. | | Make it an early night. Take your dog out for a walk while the sun is still up. Try to get in an extra lap to ensure your dog is good and tired. | | Move up dinner time. Moving up dinner time ensures your dog has plenty of time to eat and digest their food before fireworks start. Be sure to keep your dog's water bowl full all night, as firework anxiety can cause excessive panting. | | Prepare your home. Shut windows and lock them so they are sealed. Draw your curtains to hide any bright flashes. Turn up the radio or TV louder than normal to help block out any loud bangs. | | Comfort your pet. Let them up on the couch or in bed with you. If you notice your dog panting excessively, whining, or looking around, be sure to cuddle and reassure your pet that it's okay. | | | |
