I am currently on the flight home from Top Velocity in Covington, LA.
Brent Porciau is the owner and brainchild of Top Velocity, and he has an incredible staff around him to blend the art and science, education, and interesting visualizations covering high-performance pitching without injury.
On his walls are the many athletes who have worked with him, some who raised their velocity over 15 mph.
He is a consummate educator and one of the few people in the industry who is marketing health as a part of their programming. When you walk in, there are no places to throw without targets, and the medball velocities do not count if they don't hit a target.
You catch my drift, right?
He is extremely high on the speed-accuracy tradeoff—no throwing to blank walls. Every throw has a performance and motor skill purpose. They have to throw strikes there and are highly encouraged to do so.
His following and athletic base utilizes the ArmCare.com platform to ensure no one is slipping through the cracks. When I was onsite, I could see all the measurables he takes on athletes to ensure their kinetic chain has no broken links.
We have some similarities to his approaches, as seen in our ThrowFuzz checklist, a foundation of assessments that the body, mind, and social dynamics need to succeed so that athletes can throw hard, throw often, and throw healthy.
Be sure to check out our YouTube Live, where you will learn how to maximize your fastball while minimizing damage.
In strength,
Ryan
