Swallows and swifts migrate during the colder months and take their winter holiday in Africa. When the British sunshine makes a reappearance, the birds return to breed and raise their young before returning to the heat at the end of summer.
They feed off insects, so don't require fat reserves or supplementary food before taking their long journey back, which usually takes them around 6 weeks to complete. As they rely on the insects for energy, they can sometimes face difficulty when the weather has not been favorable and insect populations are low.
Swallows and swifts often struggle to find adequate nesting spaces, this is due to the constant renovation and building developments which put their preferred nesting spaces at risk. We can help compensate for the lack of natural nesting sites by providing a suitable nest and nesting area to help these beautiful birds thrive.
