Many people believe that it is not necessary to feed the garden birds in the summer due to their natural foods like worms and insects being plentiful, but this isn't always true.
A lack of food for many reasons can happen at any time. Persistent hot weather can cause the ground to become too dry for worms to rise and insects may stay away if the conditions are not in their favour.
Providing high protein foods like mealworms and kibbled peanuts is a brilliant way to keep our birds happy, strong and fed during the hotter months.
But don't worry, birds will always prefer their natural food sources than the food we put in our feeders, they'll only tuck in if they cannot find any delicious worms or insects!
