About the Eco-Plate Hedgehog House

We're thrilled to announce that our Eco-Plate Hedgehog House has recently been awarded the Best Wildlife House at Glee 2021, the UK's leading garden and outdoor living trade show, for Grow your Own Magazine.

This house has been designed in collaboration with the Egelstichting (the Dutch Hedgehog protection society) and is made of Eco-plate, a material similar in density to plywood but produced from recycled car seats. This environmentally friendly material is weather resistant and very durable. The entrance tunnel is hidden inside the house to make it more difficult for predators to reach hedgehogs inside. The removable lid makes it easy to clean when required.

To make the house attractive to hedgehogs we recommend part-filling the nest chamber with dried leaves. Place the house on a dry surface in a sheltered and secluded spot. Cover with soil, branches, leaves or other natural materials, ensuring the entrance hole is clear. If you can try to make sure the house is not facing north or northeast.

Hedgehogs like to nest under sheds and hedges however this house offers a great alternative. Hedgehogs will also use the house for hibernation between November and Mid-March. It's important to not disturb the box while it's occupied.
