| Hello, | | As you know, we are very concerned about the enormous amount of plastic that is floating in the oceans and killing thousands of marine inhabitants. We have some good news! Two college students, Miranda Wang and Jeanny Yao, potentially have a viable solution to the problem! What’s it all about? | | | | | | | | | What have they done? | | | They have developed a prototype for breaking down polystyrene into CO2 and water. This brand new technology can be used for landfill and beach cleanups. | | | | | | | How is it going to work? | | | First, the plastic will be dissolved, then enzymes catalyze the base chemicals breaking them down into more manageable compounds. The whole process from loading up a tank with bio-digester to complete waste degradation is expected to be 24 hours! | | | | | | | | | Wang and Yao established a company called BioCellection. They are going to start field-testing this summer. | | | | | | | C | We hope the field testing will work out well! We badly need to find ways to break down all the stray plastic that has not been properly discarded. | | | | | C | We are always glad to share with you our latest news! Stay tuned! | | | | | | | |
