Jersey: The Foodie Edition Jersey may well be an Island that's small in size, but we can guarantee you it is bursting with flavour at every turn. From rich creamy milk, to seafood straight from the island's clear waters and of course the famous Jersey Royal, there is plenty to discover. There is nothing better on a hot summer's day then an ice-cream as you watch the world go by, we advise you look out for local Jersey Dairy signs when making your selection. Jersey Dairy produce a whole range of delicious products which are easy to try during your stay, be it cold milk on your morning cereal, butter on hot toast or whipped cream with a scone in the afternoon. Currently around 13 dairy farms in Jersey contribute to what we think is the best milk in the world. Jersey Dairy products are made only with milk sourced on the island from pedigree Jersey cows all registered in a herd book which dates back to 1866. Jersey Royals have been grown in Jersey for over 140 years, today around 20 island farmers grow these nutty new potatoes, many of whom grow no other crops. Most still use seaweed harvested from local beaches as a natural fertiliser (locally know as Vraic) and these age-old practices culminate in an awarding winning crop that is exported far and wide. Surrounded by clear waters, Jersey offers some of the beast seafood and fish around. Whilst we are still in bed our fisherman are out and about collecting the catch of the day. The jewel in the crown has to be a local lobster, closely followed by crabs, scallops, oysters, mussels and many fish varieties. Many restaurants and cafes serve up the catch of the day and with many fisherman selling their products in the fish market or the famous Faulkner Fisheries, you must sample a dish or two before you head home.
