Canada started on their 'CADPAT' (Canadian Disruptive Pattern) design all the way back in 1997 and rolled it out officially in 2002. Apart from its obvious visual camouflage qualities, it was notably designed in combination with the latest fabric technology to camouflage from night vision devices.

The US Marine Corps worked with the Canadian government and developed their own camouflage, MARPAT and started issuing it between 2002-2004. What arguably made digital patterns the most famous was the USA's  controversial Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP) or often miss-named and better know as 'ACU.'
