Four-time Olympic ski champions, Florence and Daniel Cathiard purchased Smith Haut Lafitte in 1990. After 10 years completely renovating and restructuring the vineyard, winery, cellar, and especially the winemaking methodology, the real fun began...the winemaking!
In 2009 Robert Parker discovered their wine and initially gave them 98 points for this vintage, saying the wine was "nearly perfect". After retesting the evolution of the '09 bottle, Parker was willing to say they had achieved perfection and rescored the wine a perfect score of 100 points! Here is a chance to experience this chateau in its entry level label “Les Hauts de Smith".
Les Hauts de Smith is an expressive wine on the nose, with a very nice basket of fresh red fruits (cherries, strawberries, raspberries), then more sophisticated notes of hot earth, flint, sweet spices, blond tobacco. A round Pessac-Léognan, with a good tannic structure and a nice freshness. All roundness mouthfeel with a good tannic structure and a nice freshness. The red fruits compete for the predominance of the mouth with the notes of flint, smoke that come to nuance the spices and nutmeg. Wine of the Month Club · 320 W Chestnut Ave, Monrovia.
