Sylvia Filippini's family began growing grapes in Paso Robles in the 1960s. At the time there were maybe three or four wineries and a few scattered vineyards. Most of them, like that of Sylvia's family, were run by Italian immigrants who came bearing vines from their homeland.
This wine comes off their estate vineyard, Domenico, with only three acres of Sauvignon Blanc planted. The moderate winters and rainless, though often foggy, summers are features of a Mediterranean climate shared by wine regions of Southern Italy, Greece, and the Southern Rhone Valley. It is the quintessential wine from this grape with all the lovely pear and apple scents, spice and herbal flavors and gripping finish we have come to know and adore.
